Tony Scriven's Sunshine Jazz Band
The band is led by drummer Tony Scriven and seeks to pay tribute to Monty Sunshine, who was one of the founders of New Orleans style music in Britain. One of the few jazzers to have had a record in the hit parade - Petite Fleur in 1957 - Monty ran one of the top touring bands in Europe until his retirement due to ill-health in 1998. Tony had been playing with Monty's band until that date.
Before that he was the leader of Vintage Jazz - billed as 'The Hottest Band in London' with a 15 year residency at The Lord Napier, Thornton Heath, one of the top Jazz Clubs in the London area. The band entertains both listeners and dancers, with a mixture of Stomps, Blues, Ragtime, Marches and popular tunes from the 20's, 30's, 40's and beyond, providing both excitement and nostalgia.
