New Orleans Jazz Bandits

The band originally formed in 1956 playing in the classic style of King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton, Bix Beiderbeck, Paul Whiteman &c with trombonist Colin Kingwell as leader until his retirement in 2016.
Since 2017, the remaining members have continued as a cooperative. Over the years the style of the band changed, leading up to the inimitable New Orleans Revivalist jazz, recognised and appreciated by jazz enthusiasts and connoisseurs everywhere. Playing New Orleans style music, the band toured the UK, Denmark, Holland, Sweden, France, Switzerland and the U.S.A.
After sixty successful years, Colin decided that at the end of 2016 he would graciously retire from his role as Bandleader of The Bandits. The remaining members of the band, with Colin’s blessing, agreed to continue as a unit bearing ‘The Jazz Bandits’ as their name. It was agreed that the band will be run co-operatively with its continuing comradery and enthusiasm. So ‘The Jazz Bandits’ was born in January 2017.
